Update: New York: NYSoH Open Enrollment actually extends thru 5/31 due to Medicaid Unwinding SEP

Thanks to Louise Norris for catching this one.

This is a bit odd...… earlier today I noted that Covered California is extending their Final 2024 Open enrollment deadline out until January 9th due to a service center issue they had over the past few days. A key thing about this, however, is that they included a formal press release to announce the extension.

By contrast, New York State of Health, also supposed to have a deadline of midnight tonight, just posted the following tweet without any formal press release being emailed or posted on their website. Of this writing there's also no notice posted on the front page website.

In any event, assuming this isn't an error, it looks like NYSoH is bumping out their final 2024 OEP deadline until February 15th, although unlike the CA extension which is retroactive to Feb. 1st, coverage for NY residents who enroll between Feb. 1st - Feb. 15th won't start until March 1st.

UPDATE 2/01/24: Welp...there's still no formal press release or notice on their website, but the home page does say "Enrollment for 2024 is open. Enroll or renew today!" at the top, so there you go.

As an aside, the NYSoH FAQ page is a wee bit outdated; the "Fast Facts on Enrollment Periods" page hasn't been updated since 2018, and the section on changing plans still refers to the 2014 and 2015 open enrollment periods. Huh.

UPDATE: D'oh!! Thanks again to Louise Norris for reminding me that not only did NYSoH send out a press release about this extension months ago, they're actually extending OEP all the way out until the end of May:

 

New Yorkers who enroll after December 15 will still be able to enroll in health insurance as enrollment for Qualified Health Plans will remain open throughout the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Unwind which ends May 2024. After the PHE Unwind ends, Special Enrollment Period rules will apply for Qualified Health Plan enrollment. To avoid a gap in coverage, New Yorkers who are currently enrolled in coverage through the NY State of Health should enroll by December 15. The table below shows the effective date of coverage based on when a consumer enrolls:
