New Mexico 12K active enrollments in first month (down 10% y/y); ~76K total so far
BeWell NM, New Mexico's ACA exchange, is the only state marketplace with ongoing daily enrollment data reports:
New Mexico Open Enrollment 2026 - Enrollment Summary
Last Refreshed On: December 2, 2025
Officially, they're reporting 75,926 Qualified Health Plan (QHP) enrollments already, which is actually 8% higher than the 70,373 which they ended with during the 2025 Open Enrollment Period (OEP) last January.
HOWEVER...and this is a major caveat...that 75,926 includes all current enrollees being auto-renewed for 2026, which doesn't really count for my purposes. Most state exchanges used to hold off on lumping in the auto-renewals until after the initial December deadline, only reporting current enrollees who actively re-enroll along with new enrollees.
When I look at it that way, I get:
- Active Re-enrollees: 8,918
- New Enrollees: 3,144
- Automatic Re-enrollees: 63,864
- Total: 75,926
The auto-re-enrollee number will continue to shrink over time as more existing enrollees actively choose a new plan (or even the same one) for 2026.
By comparison, at the same point last year, BeWell NM reported:
- Active Enrollments: 11,443
- New Enrollments: 1,966
- Auto-Reenrollments: 48,602
- TOTAL: 62,011
Combined, that's 12,062 active enrollments in November 2025 vs. 13,409 in November 2024, or down around 10% so far...and this is in the only state which is fully backfilling 100% of the lost federal tax credits for EVERY enrollee.
If active enrollment is down 10% here, I can only imagine how much slower things are going in every other state right now...
