A Personal Note
To my readers:
As many of you know, I've been operating ACASignups.net since October 2013. At first the project was intended purely as a volunteer part-time hobby. The site quickly consumed virtually all of my time and energy, and that has never stopped in the 5 1/2 years since.
My official job as a freelance website developer began to suffer, and several years ago I pretty much gave up website development in order to devote full time to my work analyzing/blogging about healthcare policy in general while also educating people and advocating for progressive healthcare policy reform.
For a long time I've survived on a combination of the my banner ad arrangement with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the generosity of individual donors, and the occasional freelance writing gig. And while I'm eternally grateful for all of these, there's always still been an income gap which I've never been quite able to fill.
Today I'm happy to announce that I've made arrangements to fill that gap...doing exactly what I love to do and seem to be pretty good at doing.
I need to stress that this development does NOT mean that I no longer need Patreon/PayPal support! It just means that...well, I won't be pushing for additional donors so much.
Effective June 1, 2019, I've entered into a part-time independent contractor agreement with the Center for American Progress (CAP), a left-leaning policy think tank, to do occasional healthcare data analysis and healthcare policy reform advocacy on their behalf.
The advocacy portion, at least for awhile, will likely mostly include educating people about the "Medicare for America" universal healthcare coverage proposal, which was largely based on an earlier proposal from CAP. However, it's important to keep in mind that I was already a huge fan of (and advocate for) that earlier proposal long before I discussed any such arrangement with CAP.
Going forward, in the interest of full transparency, I'll include a disclaimer noting this arrangement any time I refer to CAP data or studies in blog entries.
Other than that, honestly, not much else should change. I may be travelling a bit more for in-person forums (ironically I appeared at three of them last month, before this arrangement began), but that should really be about it...I'll still be updating the blog, going on tweetstorm rants and everything else I do every day.
Thanks to everyone for your support over the years and (hopefully) going forward.
