  • If you need health insurance, MNsure can help

ST. PAUL, Minn.—MNsure’s open enrollment period starts today and runs through January 15, 2024. Open enrollment is the annual opportunity for Minnesotans who need health insurance to shop and compare their options for 2024, sign up for coverage, or change plans through MNsure, Minnesota’s health insurance marketplace.

For over ten years, MNsure has served tens of thousands of Minnesotans who are self-employed or gig workers, entrepreneurs and small business owners, farmers, early retirees who don’t yet qualify for Medicare, and those who don’t have access to affordable health insurance through their jobs. MNsure has delivered nearly $2 billion in health care savings to Minnesotans since 2013 and is the trusted source for families looking for medical and dental plans that meet their needs and budgets.

“When shopping for health insurance feels complicated, MNsure is here to help,” said MNsure CEO Libby Caulum. “With MNsure, you can compare private health plans from multiple insurance companies in one place, connect with free, personalized help from a MNsure-certified broker in your community, and access discounts to lower your health care costs that aren’t available anywhere else.”

Minnesotans must enroll by December 15, 2023, to get the peace of mind that comes with a full year of health insurance beginning on January 1, 2024. For Minnesotans who enroll between December 16, 2023, and January 15, 2024, coverage will begin on February 1 instead.

MNsure estimates eligible families will save an average of $562/month ($6,750/year) when they purchase health insurance for 2024 through MNsure. These significant savings are thanks to advanced premium tax credits, which act like an instant discount to reduce monthly premiums – and are only available through MNsure.

In recent years, federal legislation has enhanced these tax credits, meaning larger tax credits are available and more Minnesotans are eligible for these savings. MNsure especially encourages these groups to work with a broker to see if they now qualify for tax credits:

  • Middle-income families who were ineligible in prior years due to an income cap
  • Minnesotans with access to affordable employer-sponsored health insurance – if your job-based coverage is affordable for you, but not for your family members
