CMS posts Medicaid expansion enrollment as of December 2024: Still over 20.7 million

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has posted an official update to the enrollment data for ACA Medicaid expansion through Decmeber 2024.

According to the new report, total enrollment from September through November actually increased by just a hair (5,377) and still remained at over 20.7 million nationally, so it doesn't look like the Trump Admin has started cooking these particular books, at least not yet.

I've been able to cobble together more recent ACA expansion enrollment for about half of the 40 states (+DC) which participate in the program:

Since December, nine of the states above have seen expansion enrollment increase (by up to 9.1%) while the other 11 saw it drop by up to 13.8% (Oregon). When I plug in all 20 updates (which range from March to July), the national total enrollment remains at well over 20.7 million...down just 6,813.

Note: CMS has Rhode Island down as "0" for the 4th quarter of 2024; this is due to their massive statewide system data breach from last winter. I've plugged in their official September 2024 enrollment figure for now.

I don't have more recent data for the other 20 states, of course, but that's remarkably stable overall...for now, of course.
