NO UPDATES UNTIL WEDNESDAY...

UPDATE 6/5/17: NO SITE UPDATES UNTIL WEDNESDAY, AS I'LL BE TRAVELLING TO/FROM D.C. FOR THE 2017 NIHCM FOUNDATION HEALTHCARE DIGITAL MEDIA AWARDS DINNER...

OK, this really isn't news (it's been public for several weeks now), but I was recently selected as one of seven finalists in the 3rd Annual NIHCM Foundation Health Care Digital Media Awards:

The National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM) Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to improving the health of Americans by spurring workable and creative solutions to pressing health care problems.

...The NIHCM Foundation Health Care Digital Media Award recognizes excellence in digital media that improves understanding of health care topics through analysis grounded in empirical evidence. The three-year-old award carries a $10,000 prize and is judged by an independent panel of experts:

  • Julia Belluz, Vox.com
  • Christopher J. Conover, Duke University
  • Austin Frakt, Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Matthew Holt, The Health Care Blog
  • Megan McArdle, Bloomberg View
  • Michael Millenson, Health Quality Advisors LLC
  • Alan Murray, Time Inc. & Fortune
  • Uwe Reinhardt, Princeton University

Last year's winner was a colleague of mine, of sorts: Andrew Sprung, aka "Xpostfactoid", who writes occasional freelance pieces over at healthinsurance.org as I do from time to time.

Anyway, I was holding off on posting anything about it until the winner was announced. It wasn't me*, but that's fine; I truly am honored to be among the finalists, which include...

Congratulations to the finalists for the 3rd Annual NIHCM Foundation Health Care Digital Media Award! We received over 100 entries for the award, representing the best health care digital media from 2016.

I'll be honest...I was a bit stunned that my big ol' pie chart is considered to be in the same league as a 4-part PBS FRONTLINE series and so forth, but I'm deeply honored regardless. Huge congrats to the other finalists (a few of whom I've referenced here at ACA Signups before, such as Anna Barry-Jester and Zachary Tracer).

Anyway, the other cool thing is that they have this big Awards Dinner thing the first week of June in DC which I'll be attending; it'll be nice to finally meet some of the other healthcare wonks/reporters I've been hobnobbing with online for the past 3+ years.

*(I'm not going to say who did win, since I'm not sure if that's been made public yet or not)

UPDATE: OK, they just announced the winners publicly; congrats to all!
