GOP: "Are you SURE we can't blame it on Obama & get away with it?" America: "we said NO, dammit!"
The Kaiser Family Foundation took a national survey from March 28 - April 3 (the week following the GOP's first failed attempt to pass their Trumpcare bill), and included among the questions they asked was this one:
With the future of any other replacement plans uncertain, this month’s survey also gauges who the public views as responsible for the 2010 health care law going forward. A majority (61 percent) of the public say that because President Trump and Republicans in Congress are in control of the government, they are now responsible for any problems with the ACA moving forward. About three in ten Americans (31 percent) say that because President Obama and Democrats in Congress passed the law, they are responsible for any problems with it.
OK, that was then, this is now. With their second attempt at passing an even worse version of the Trumpcare bill being ramped up and Trump now openly threatening to cut off CSR reimbursements, which would likely utterly devastate the entire individual market, where does the public at large stand on the blame game TODAY?
In addition, a majority (64 percent) of the public say that because President Trump and Republicans in Congress are now in control of the government, they are responsible for any problems with the ACA moving forward. About three in ten (28 percent) say that because President Obama and Democrats in Congress passed the law, they are responsible for any problems with it moving forward.
Yes, that's right: MORE of the public would now blame the GOP for the ACA "exploding", "imploding", "failing", "melting down" etc. than just 4 weeks earlier: From 61 - 31 to 64 - 28. That's a 6 point shift in a month.
Furthermore, it's not just Democratic opposition either:
Half of Republicans (53 percent) say President Trump and Republicans in Congress are now responsible for any problems with the ACA going forward, up significantly from 34 percent earlier this month.2 Large shares of Democrats and independents still say President Trump and Republicans in Congress are responsible for any problems with the law moving forward.
And yet, just moments ago...
They were warned. They were given an explanation. Nevertheless, they're persisting.
