Dear Mr. Gaba,

First off, let me say that I appreciate the work that you're doing here on the ACA Individual Market premium numbers. The data you provide is both comprehensive and useful, as well as possibly unique; I haven't come across another consistently-updated source for state-by-state premium figures.

I work as a Research Assistant for the Joint Economic Committee. Our committee is charged with keeping members of Congress up-to-date on the latest economic data. As you might expect, our members are keenly interested in information about the premium changes that their constituents can expect in the 2017 open enrollment period, and the JEC had hoped to cite back to your state-by-state premium increase data. Would you have any issues if we did so?

Sincerely,

Dear (name withheld)—

Sorry about the delayed response to your email; I’m pretty swamped these days, as you can imagine.

Thank you for your kind words of support.

As you’re no doubt aware, I’m a fairly strong progressive Democrat, so your inquiry is a bit on the awkward side.

I appreciate your asking for my blessing to cite my data.

However, I’m also a bit confused by it, because you’ve already done so in the past without contacting me first.

As long as the data which I post publicly at ACASignups.net is presented accurately and in context, and cited/credited/linked to appropriately, I have no problem with your using it in the future.

Mr. Gaba,

I wanted to let you know that the committee elected to go in a different direction and calculate estimated premium increases for each state from scratch in-house. I wanted to clarify this to avoid any misunderstandings about the origin of our data given my prior email. The results of our work should be available in the near future.

Thanks,
